first of the season

A nasty wet and gloomy day today, but when I went out to feed the chickens I found the first of the season's daffodils has opened.

I had a time of not liking daffodils much, they had sad associations for me. But over the years they have won me over again and I welcome them, especially these gently coloured old-fashioned ones.
