world in a grain of sand

cuff box

That sailor great grandfather I referred to earlier was a ship's carpenter and he made this box for keeping collars (in the days when they were removable from shirts) and collar studs in. The studs go in a little pot which sits in the middle and keeps the collars neck shaped. My mother in law used the pot for tiddly winks, which she played ferociously with the children and always won.
Sadly my husband has not inherited any carpentry abilities, thoush he doesn't get sea sick like I do!
