Another Closed Works....
This was the first works that I had to close in 2008, the lights on but there's nobody at home as we say.
Shutting my works in 2012 has been traumatic to say the least, it also make me think of what I have achieved throughout my time in the brick industry and at first I thought "Not a Lot", but on reflection there is a Legacy that I have left, so I am to tell this story for the first and last time, not that many will read it.
In 1900 at the turn of the last century there were 4005 brickworks in the British Isles, as from March 2012 there will be 53 left, out of those 53 Brickworks there are five works managers that were my Number two, but all with their own style of running their works. These five also includes the only female Brickworks Manager in the Industry and she is running a beautiful works in Stoke. There are also three Guys who are Specials Managers that have worked with me and a further one who will be appointed very shortly. There also a further guy who worked under me as a Production manager in 1993/4 who is now the Managing Director of a Multi-National European Roofing Material Company. There are also many guys who are still working in the industry that have climbed up the ranks and are either Production Managers or Supervisors or Engineers.
So my point is that I think that I have left my mark on the World of Brick Making, well that is how I have come to see it, so if I never work again in the industry I can't moan can I?
