surprise forgotten paintings (ok, photos of) are often more welcome encounters than I would imagine. Closeness of time to anything that I make leads to a more often than not feeling of disappointment. One of my lecturers at art college told me that this was no bad thing and would (if not disproportionate) could allow me to keep making work

I gave this painting away and today found a photograph on our hard drive
