The Scott Centenary Concert
On the second attempt we managed to see this concert. Snow scuppered the attempt last Saturday, but the trip to Worcestershire gave us the opportunity to see it in Cheltenham.
It was an excellent programme. Very atmospheric and moving.
Hugh Bonneville (of recent Downton Abbey fame) gave the narration from Scott of the Antarctic. He is pleasing to the eye and to listen to - so had Di's rapt attention!!! This diminished as the evening progressed as the comfort of the seats left a lot to be desired!! That's what she gets for being so skinny! I needless to say have more padding and was not distracted by the "numb bum syndrome"
Images taken by Herbert Ponting, the expedition photographer, were shown during the last part of the programme. These were beautiful and made me wonder what type of photographic equipment was being used at the point in time and if many of them were taken early in the expedition and so safe for recovery.
A visit to the Scott Polar Research Institute in Cambridge, to find the answers to many of the questions the programme raised, is now on the "to do list"
Having been away for a few days, I'm so behind on my comments to fellow blippers. Sorry, will catch up next week.
It's my birthday tomorrow and I will be sharing the day with daughter No 1 & only on a photography course. More knowledge and skills to be developed!!! Will probably add to my present confusion!!
