End of the line?
Not sure if this is an old railway goods wagon but it has definitely seen better days!
Went for a walk to check out Orchil Castle having driven past its road end hundreds of times. It was signposted with an old fashioned black hand extending an elegant finger to point the way.
It was bitterly cold and a hazy fog was starting to descend. A single track road wound its way through well maintained woodland. The castle soon came into view, a lovely, stately building flying the Saltire. We walked on by along the road which skirts the castle and saw a lady out with her three dogs - black spaniels! - which came running up to greet us, as they do!
They went on their way and we went to the natural end of the road before about-turning to head back. There were hundreds of snowdrops under the trees and buds on rhododendron bushes which line the road. There were also daffodil shoots coming up - all encouraging signs that we are on the way towards Spring. Just as we were nearing the start of the walk, this old goods wagon caught my eye. It was set back from the road and tucked in beside the wall. Perhaps it had been a wood store, or a handy place for maintenance tools to be kept. Who knows, but in days past, this area was well served with trains until the Beeching cuts of the 1960's which did away with much of the rail network in these parts.
