Chaos and Calm

Another day in the 'office'...

The thing I love most about being a photojournalist is that I am not stuck in a boring office doing boring office-work, wearing boring office clothes, surrounded by boring office people, working boring office hours.
My 'office' is wherever I am needed, doing what I love, wearing whatever the hell I want, surrounded by musicians, working obscure hours.

I was called by a venue I am at regularly to do photos for them, as part of the St. Kilda Festival today. All day event. By the time I got to venue, everyone was well pissed somewhat inebriated, and when drumk people see someone with a camera, they ask for night club-worthy group shots. Women make the duck face, fellas hold up their beers and make a constipated face. After a few hours around those drunks, I neeed a break, and went out for a little while. Took the first photo of the rides that were down next to the beach. The first time I've done a shot like that, with the shutter open for eight seconds. I was quite happy with it.

Returned to my 'office' after a meal and naughty cigarette... The camera whore happy to pose for photos drunks had moved on, in readiness for work in the morning, replaced by the obnoxious, violent, douchebag drunks. I almost got caught in a scuffle brawl because one obnoxious, violent drunk tripped and knocked another obnoxious, violent drunk's drink. What ensued was an incredible display of epic douchebaggery, macho security guards yelling "break it up, fellas", screaming female twits, and ultimately, a lot of cops.

PHOTO OP!!! The guy in photo two was compliant. More than I can say for many others, who were taken down by up to five officers each.

There is a moral to this story... If you see obnoxious, violent, douchebag drunks getting arrested, don't stand too close. There is every chance that you will be standing downwind when cops use mace.
That shit hurts. (Excuse my language)
I found that one out the painful way.

Yep.... Just another day in the office.
