Desire path

Not just a footpath, but a path which has been eroded by footfall.

Have you noticed that in the snow, there are lines of footfall which don't necessarily follow the line of a pavement or designated footpath. These are desire paths, basically lines of least resistance.

In Finland, their planners wait for the first snow and then take note of the lines developing so they can use them as a guide for developing new routes. I wonder if that they do that in the UK? Or is that a silly question?

There was snow again overnight, but some rain this morning and then sun has started a melt. Should all be gone by Wednesday, if not sooner.
