Two for one
We went out to the Hopetoun garden centre to pick up some fleece. They have loads of bird feeders just outside...there was also a birder standing there in camouflage gear with a 500 mm lens, who informed us that there was a nuthatch about. Very far north for one of them.
After shopping, I paused for 5 minutes to take a few photos. I was concentrating so hard on the goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) that it took a few seconds to realise that it wasn't a sparrow on the other side of the feeder (and what would a sparrow be doing at the Niger seeds?) but it was a wee Common Redpoll (Carduelis flammea). Bargain!
A couple of other birdshots from the visit elsewhere...
