In the bleak midwinter

It's pretty chilly at the moment but I managed to drag myself out for an afternoon stroll round a different park than my normal one. I came across this fantastic looking tree stump pointing at the sky like some Neolithic monument. The sun was just shedding some rays behind it and in black and white it all looks much more dramatic. I know it's bit past midwinter really but we're at that time of the year when it feels as of winter will never end...
