Some of you ......
......... may recognise Doune Castle as the setting for Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It is also the setting for an annual 'Holy Grail' weekend which people come from far and wide to participate in and enjoy the festivites, some in fancy dress.
Doune Castle is a magnificent late 14th century castle dominated by a 100ft gatehouse and built around a courtyard. The building houses a superb banqueting hall, minstrel gallery and incorporates carved oak screening.
If you are a 'Python' fan it is a must to hire an audio headset for your tour. Narrated by Terry Jones and containing excerpts from the film it will have you laughing as you wander round. (It's funny to see people laughing to themselves then looking embarassed as they look around to see if anyone has noticed!)
Doune Castle is almost on our doorstep and is a favourite place to visit. As members of Historic Scotland, we have visited many castles the length and breadth of the country but Doune Castle is hard to beat.
Well worth a visit.
