Heading for the Hills

High level Route

It was meant to be a relaxing walk up the Ennerdale valley up to Black sail, as the weather service had said there was to be low cloud on all the summits.Although there was cloud dancing about on the tops it was well above the snow line so i could nt resist heaading up Pillar cove to Pillar rock to enjoy the winter snow and ice with cramp ons ready when needed.

After taking plenty of Blips of the slow thawing Icecles carfully made my way over to Robinsons cairn which provided excellent views of the fells nearby, which were being cloaked in mist and then it would clear opening up the view of the tops

There is a slow thaw as some of the Gills are ice free where others water is trying to flow. From Robinsons cairn i headed along the High level route where the snow was compacted in places and soft underfoot in others, whcih made it a bit tricky in and out of the crags.

On c ompleting the route desended down to Black sail Pass where i was welcomed in to a Lovely and warm Youth Hostel byvisitors who had used the Hostel for their base for the weekend . Reluctantly had to cut short the warm welcome as i was running late and had to head back up the valley which is six miles and it was well dark. Great day out in 'Wild Ennerdale'
