The Eagle
from The Eagle
by Lord Alfred Tennyson
He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ringed with the azure world, he stands.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.
My blip today is distant but hopefully you can make out that this is an eagle.
I went on an eagle viewing boat trip today on the Connecticut River out of Essex, Connecticut.
It was thrilling to see eagles soaring upstream and wonderful to have an eagle expert on board. It was cold and windy but it seemed that everyone's fiery enthusiasm kept the group warm. If not in body, in soul and spirit.
The Connecticut river winds over 400 miles from moose country in Pittsburg, NH to the Long Island Sound.
From January through to March, eagles nest in the warmer unfrozen lower reaches of the Connecticut River, where fish are plentiful. Today was very windy and our guide explained that wind was wonderful for eagles, who can glide in such conditions without much energy expenditure.
