February Challenge - Extreme Angle
With the snow and bad weather I had visions of photographing one of the kids at the college round the corner from our office at some lairy angle in his car drifting round the corner like some street race hero, but that got usurped.
In the morning at work I was asked 'you are ok with a camera, can you take some pictures of the CFD cluster for a presentation the boss has to make, he needs them in a few minutes'
No pressure then....
So to translate a little bit, the CFD cluster is basically a super computer. We have a very large server type high performance computer at work to do lots (and I mean hundreds of millions) of calculations to predict air flow around all manner of things. Our mainstay of business is racing cars, and we have pretty much got that sorted, but this is expanding into all kinds of other interesting areas.
The supercomputer is brand new and part of a new technical partnership with the computer manufacturer, and something that the company is very proud of.
So how do you photograph a bloomin great wardrobe full of flashing lights in the noisiest room a computer could inhabit? Well I didn't have any idea, so I just tried a few different angles and this was one of the better ones. I think the picture that got used was a little more run of the mill with computer companies name and the server lights creating a nice bokeh effect in the background.
