Sandstone columns

I like these sandstone columns which I pass everyday on my way to work. They're under the archway leading into the Old Medical Quad from Teviot Place. They seem to me to be very solidly built and, given their height, much broader than other columns.

I took the bus to work this morning (still recovering from Saturday's race) and was so engrossed in my book, I missed my stop and had a long walk back. It is The death of Dalziel by Reginald Hill. On the way home I fell asleep, but we live near the bus terminus, so no worries there ;o)
