Snack attack

A very good Monday - lots of niggling issues were resolved today.

We went out for a drink and some tapas - ended up in a pintxos bar. These small snacks are like tapas but served with a toothpick (pintxo means spike) through each one.

These are a few of the cold ones we chose from the bar - hot pintxos regularly leave the kitchen and are carried through the bar on large plates; you just choose want you want as they pass you.

At the end of the evening your bill is calculated by the number of pintxos on your plate - different length or colour of the picks can distinguish the premium ones like a delicious prawns or organic ham etc.

They originate from Northern Spain, especially popular in The Basque Country. I love the north, and every few years we head up to Bilbao. Here is a picture of a typical Bilboa pintxos bar I took years ago.

Tip: Never call them tapas in the Basque Country - they're pintxos!!
