Lights in the cafe at lunch.

Stills lecture #4 tonight - tonights topic was around the topic of beauty in documentary photography - how it once was fashionable, fell out of fashion and now is making a reappearance. We also discussed how seeing 'beautiful' pictures of horrendous subjects such as war and famine can make you feel guilty for looking at them - makes you feel almost voyeuristic. In some ways it's becoming the thing that draws you in to a picture as there's such a glut of images that are purely about the content; the 'beauty' of the images makes them stand out - and in some ways, emphasises the horror of the content.

Another very interesting lecture that I'll need to mull over a bit.
