Mission San Diego de Alcala
According to the official website this is the first of the 21 missions and known as the Mother of the Missions, Mission San Diego de Alcala was founded on July 16, 1769 by Blessed Junipero Serra. It was designated as a Minor Basilica in 1976 by Pope Paul VI. The Mission today is an active Catholic Parish in the Diocese of San Diego.
We visited here as part of day three of the great San Diego Adventure. The weather was not stupendous, but we had the honor of In Today's Views as tour guide. She picked us up at the crack of 9:30 am and we headed off to Birch Aquarium at Scripps. We saw the coolest stuff. I have an album of the days highlights here.
After the aquarium it was time for lunch at the Point Loma Fish Market. Yum! Our guide knows her restaurants!
The tour then moved inland to the Mission, the Presidio, and finally Old Town San Diego, the birth place of California.
We finished up the day sharing a wonderful Mexican Dinner in Ocean Beach with our guide and her wonderful husband.
We could not have asked for a better day.
Thanks again S!
