The 1912 project
Many more people made their own clothes in the early part of the 20th century than they do today. Surprising really as clothes were so much more complicated then. La Mode Illustrees was a French magazine that provided patterns for all sorts of clothing for women and children.
I have joined a community of about 400 bloggers who are aiming to make all the clothes featured in the magazines published in 1912 to mark the 100th anniversary of the maiden voyage and sinking of the Titanic. The project was initiated by the Vintage Pattern Lending Library of California, they are transcribing the patterns and e mailing them out to the volunteer bloggers.
The first project dropped into my inbox last week. It is for a woman's petticoat, I began it at the weekend and blogged about it today
