Glacier Trip
Travelled north up the west coast on route to Franz Josef glacier - this has to be a "wow, wow," day! We did a 40min helicopter flight to discover the gigantic expanse of the Franz Josef and the Fox Glacier snowfields with a landing at high altitude. The views were spectacular - it's so hard to describe what we saw - absolutely amazing - I found it very emotional and one of the most awesome sights we have ever seen. We landed at the summit of the glacier - it was 0 degrees but the sun was shining and blinding without sunglasses. Apparently the glacier moves 1 mtr per day and takes 70yrs to traverse from top to bottom. The flight also included fantastic views of Tasman Glacier and Mount Cook. We feel so privileged to have experienced this.
We continued our journey up the West coast to Hokitka where we plan to spend the next couple of days.
