For Sharon Mack "Pure Joy"

Sharon, I was standing inside where I had been all day crunching numbers and solving problems. I needed to break the intense concentration I had been enjoying and get some fresh air, but I just couldn't make myself do it on this very productive day. All at once, mid sentence, I looked past a co-worker and through her window, across the parking lot and onto this fence. Suddenly the break that I was thinking of skipping all together seemed like a really good idea!

It appeared as if someone were shining a flashlight through it and giggling, beckoning me to grab my camera and run outside for a few moments of fresh air.

I thought of you, and your love for gates. I wondered how many times you were driving down the road or in the middle of doing something totally unrelated when a gate or an old fence caught your eye.
