Red Cap Gum
The Illyarrie or Red Cap Gum has this very pretty flower which bees just LOVE. The Red Cap is a small postage stamp sized 'lid' that pops off before the flower slowly unfurls (another blip perhaps for the red cap) into a little starburst of yellow.
The bees were so focused on the business of pollen collecting they didn't seem to mind a camera lens being poked into their foraging field.
This bee is well loaded with pollen as you can see from the bulging 'pollen basket' on its back leg. I'm surprised it could take off...there were some very loaded mates buzzing around on the same tree.
