Steak and Kidney prize
Kate and Sydney pie, snake and pygmy pie, snake and kiddy pie - all rhyming slang for the very British steak and kidney pie which was even mentioned by Dickens. There is also steak and kidney pudding with the suet crust (my downfall which gave me one last push towards a gall bladder op some years ago!). The three of us and Tess were driving in T's truck down to Devon to clear uncle and auntie's house and were stuck in a bottleneck driving into Chard. The actual pub stands inches from the traffic in an exhaust fumed narrow street not far from the traffic lights. I was quite surprised to see this sign as the pub is not one that would grab your attention at all! Surprise surprise!
We got on with the work we had to do and by teatime we stopped and went to the nearby hotel for a cup of tea and chocolate cake which really hit the spot! Home by dark with the truck full to the brim with cardboard boxes. We shall have to go down again soon to finish off but at least we made a start.
