red...

...has many different meanings

what does the color red make you think of?

...a symbol of guilt, sin, passion or anger?

how about courage and sacrifice...

or what about the way we use it to catch people's attention - like in emergency situations... or to indicate danger?

in some cultures - red is a positive connotation... being associated with loyalty - honor - success - fortune - fertility - happiness...

of course, i haven't even begun to mention the use of red on flags - in sports - the polital arena - with food - and how many corporations seem to use it in their designs... it's very popular, all things considered... who knew?

additionally - there are those many idiomatic expressions exploiting the various connotations of red... such as:

"to see red" - "to paint the town red" - "to be in the red" - "to catch someone red-handed" - "a red-letter day" - "to raise a red flag"...

finally - i couldn't possibly leave out the movies that have used red: the woman in red (2 different movies 1935 & 1984), red (3 different movies with this title), raise the red lantern, red dog, reds, red riding hood...

no matter how you view red - positive or negative... with fire or passion - anger or danger... in my mind, it is vivid and alive... a color that represents many things, yes - it allows us a wide berth... a broad perspective on the playground of the color spectrum - how joyous is that? not to be boxed in - everyone can go their own way to play - now that makes for...
