Annual Pilgrimage!

Today the heavens opened, which was a bit sad and unfortunate as it was the annual county show for the islands. This is the main agricultural show when folk from all the outlying islands and exiled Orcadians living away all head back to Orkney to catch up with family and friends. Hundreds of cattle, sheep, horses, dogs, goats, poultry are all washed and groomed to perfection and exhibited for all to see. Sadly by 12 noon the show park was awash and everyone was soaked.

My sister and I took refuge in the craft tent, browsed all the cards, quilting, knitting, spinning, felting, photography, jewellery, pyrography, wood carving and many other weird and wonderful crafts and then made a dash back to the car. We headed for Stromness, the other main town in Orkney, and the wonderful cafe there, Julia's. Every time my sister visits me we go and have a meal there, knowing that whatever we choose from the menu it will be absolutely delicious! The red onion and stilton tart was no exception! Yum indeed!
