Here there be otters
This is the road bridge that crosses the River Ythan just to the north of Newburgh on Ythan. Just past the eastern end of the present bridge there is is a bomb crater left by a German aircraft during the second world war. The bomb, intended for the nearby wharf, bounced over the bridge and exploded on the embankment beside the Road. This is the third bridge to cross the river near this point and before that there was a ford and a rowing boat acted as a ferry.
Otters regularly leave their sweet-smelling spraints (droppings) and scent marks under the bridge but, being nocturnal and secretive, they are only rarely seen in the flesh, let alone photographed!
