Beneath Biscay

Reflections of the past

The reward at the end of my journal's first week, is a fine, sunny Saturday morning. What a relief after days trying to find a shot on the way to or from work. mainly in the dark and often raining.

To take a liesurly stroll around town, with my bulky camera instead of a smartphone, in brilliant sunshine, leaves me with a different quandry. Which photo should I blip?

So, I chose this photo is of the Palacio de Revillagigedo, dating from 1721, reflecting off a modern apartment block opposite.

The palace, which faces Gijon's marina, is open to the public and hosts itinerant art and cultural exhibitons.

The modern red brick clocktower 'Torre del Reloj' to the left, was built to replace the original clocktower. The original building dated from 1572 and had served as the town hall, and later as a prison, until demolished in 1909.

The current clocktower houses a permanent exihibition about the history of Gijon and offers a great view of the 'old town' from the top floor.

I'm now looking forward to my second week and to losing my blipfoto 'L' plate!
