the weather vane

If there is a typical weather vane for a farming area other than a rooster this is it. There are a few others in our village all, like this, more modern in design and make. I'm never sure if the arrow points to where the wind/weather is coming from or going to? In this case neither because it was stuck and the wind was from the NNW!
