Today's the day ................................ for Postman Pat

This is where the old Beast Bank Post Office used to be at No 10 Greenside in Kendal.

Postman Pat, the famous children's television character, was born at No 32 Greenside in 1978 - where his author, John Cunliffe, lived at the time. When he was doing his initial research for the books, it was behind the counter here that he imagined Mrs Goggins sitting.

I can remember it well as a busy little post office and used to go there fairly often before it closed in 2003. Of course, Pat travelled on in his little red van with his black and white cat and has been delighting children all over the world ever since .....................................
