Sisterhood anniversary

34 years ago it was the joyous start of a new life. Today it was a 'thank you' to the sisterhood who have helped and supported me over the last 2 and a half years. Not everyone, of course, my flat isn't large enough for that, but a goodly crew who came from far and wide.

10 of us (of those invited one couldn't come and one had to call off at the last moment) - my mum, K1 (Edinburgh) - the woman I sat next to on our first day at school, C (Edinburgh) - another ex-school mate who lived the corner, H (Surrey) - who lived down the road and we were Guide leaders together, K2 (Edinburgh) - from university and whose bridesmaid I was, Y (Glasgow) - originally Inverurie and closest friend for 33 years, K3 (Inverurie) - we worked together and supported each other through betrayal, E (Edinburgh) - who I met in France and who is now my friend and colleague, L (Crieff) - who 'picked me up' in Gatwick airport and we have so much in common - and me (Edinburgh, Australia, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Huntly, Kemnay, Kintore, Inverurie, Montgaillard and Edinburgh - full circle)

This is the first time my friends had been together as a group - 4 of at were at the original event, mum, H, K2 and me. H and K2 are friends not through me but through rugby. K3 lives in Inverurie where Y and I lived. K1's husband's family lived opposite H's friend, Y stayed at H's place in Spain with me, E lived round corner form K1 last year, C and H met up when they both lived in Spain, C daughter and E's son were at the same school in Edinburgh.
It's amazing the links between people isn't it.

It was a long lunch and there was loads of chat and laughter in the kitchen. I was brought chocolates and flowers and candles and jugs although I didn't expect presents. But what me cry buckets was the M & S box that arrived this morning from #1 son and #'1 daughter in law and in it a mini rosebush, a box of chocs, a bottle of wine and a card - saying they were thinking of me.

The food was a joint effort, some a first outside catering job for GCP and and some by me. But far too much of course, so if you're passing tomorrow - please come in for a feed. But for now, if you'll excuse me, I was up at 5 and I'm a wee bit tired.

But thank you friends - where would I be without you.
