arctic cross country

somewhere in this crowd of freezing runners competing at the national cross country championships at Calendar house in Falkirk is my friend Sheen Machine. There was a blizzard just as the race started.. it was horrible out there.

To even get into the race you need to be picked by your running club and this was her first race representing them and her first race after 3 months off with an injury. From the snowy start to the muddy end she was unstoppable. She didn't have spikes, only normal running shoes but persevered climbing out of muddy banks and burns. She did amazing for her first time, top 20 or 30 I think out of 250.

This is all bonkers and well beyond my ability or mentality but I consider her and all these women heros for getting out there, nerves, mud, snow, Arctic wind
and all, and just doing it.
