Showing my age

Saw a photo like this yesterday for sale on Portobello Road - I think it would my a good photo to enlarge and display - might pull the albums out a bit to get rid of the shadow - and maybe select the covers on show - they're a bit random at the moment.

Popped down to see my mum today - she had a fall last night and she has taken herself to bed - hope she gets up tomorrow. Sat talking to mum about my daughter not knowing what she wants to do on leaving school - my mum started talking about her first places of employment I thought I knew all about mum but evidently I didn't. She left school at 14 and wanted to work in a shop and started at a shop on the Promenade in Cheltenham and then a shoe shop in Cheltenham. Shop work was not all she thought it would be and tried other places:

a small factory making aircraft instruments 9During the war) the factory was visited by the Queen Mother ,( then the queen,) and the employees were told not to use the loo until the queen had left in case she wanted to use it.

she also had a couple of goes at in-service at some posh places - one she left her Gloucestershire and worked in Reading - at the local posh place and one evening meal with a large number of guests th lady of the house instructed my mum to fetch the step ladder and to climb to the top. When at the top mum was asked if she could see the cruet set - mum had forgotten to put the cruet set out and was shown-up in front of all the guests.

She also told me that before dad she had courted an american serviceman who wanted to take her back to America - his name was Tony - my name is Tony - I wonder if this was more than a coincidence.

Maybe I should think of writing a book????
