Sgwarnog: In the Field

The Viaduct

It was a cold, but sunny day. We were lured into the garden for football, but the lawn crunched underfoot.

I managed to pop out for twenty minutes to make the most of the light, and wandered along to Low Eaves Crag, the eastern extremity of Baildon Moor which provides fine views over Spring Wood, Tong Park, and over to the Leeds suburbs.

This view is almost exactly due east, with Tong Park Viaduct the main feature. If you travel the Ilkley-Bradford line, you'll pass over this. On the skyline lies the distinctive knoll of Rawdon Billing, where in 1780 an ancient British gold torque was unearthed. To the far right is the steeple of St. Margaret's, Horsforth, escorted by a wisp of a plume from Drax power station. In the middle ground, a glimpse of some of the extensive operations of Esholt Sewage works.
