fig twig

I'm intrigued by the fig trees. Quite soon they burst into leaf and almost immediately sprout baby fruit. You never see a flower because the flowers (male and female) are on the inside of the fruit. They require a little fig wasp to crawl in to pollinate the flowers, and while they are there laying eggs. It is such clever stuff and I marvel every year at the little miracle.
