A dog's tale

When 65-year-old Grandmother Fran Phillips saw two of her dogs fall through an icy pond week, she didn't hesitate in jumping in the freezing water to save them.

Off she trotted home to dry off.

Unfortunately, in all the drama, her wolly hat had fallen off and remained on the ice next to the big hole that was left - causing alarm to a passer-by and sparking a huge search and rescue operation involving an RAF Sea King helicopter (at a cost of nearly £5,000).

She told me the police still have the hat, I'm not sure how much they are going to charge her for it though!
