Amsterdam Day 2
Bikes are everywhere in Amsterdam, tied to railings, lamposts, bridges, canal boats, not to mention being ridden around you constantly from every direction.
We walked miles and miles today (or so it felt by the end of the day) and it's wise to stay constantly alert if you want to avoid being hit by a bike or worse, a tram.
We also discovered some wonderful little bars, called cafes or brown cafes - teeny weeny places clad within in dark brown wood and dripping with atmosphere. Although you can get a coffee in these places, they mainly serve beer and alcohol. They should not be confused with coffee houses, which although also serve coffee, are mainly for people who want to smoke cannabis. If you want a coffee/cake experience, it's best to go to a patisserie.
