Flat topped Olive
We lead a fairly frugal life here in Serinya, no wild parties, no nights down the pub, no expensive night life, so we don't begrudge our twice yearly splash out on the services of our gardeners. They come and do the things I can't or won't do, basically anything to do with climbing ladders whilst wielding chain saws, taking down dead limbs, and those bits of pruning which experience has taught me that are better left to those with at least a basic idea of what shape an fig tree should be.
I was therefore slightly surprised to see that our lovely old olive tree has been given a severe US marine style trim, an almost perfect flattop. Not sure if the more normal dome shape is a little passé this year or if it was a question of Mark not being able to reach from the ladder. I quite like the idea that we will become trendsetters for the olive growers locally but more likely that we will be merely dismissed, as usual, as that eccentric Scot and his Barcelona wife.
