A Day Worth Recording

Ashbourne

K & E go in search of the mythical hills!

A weekend on the edge of the peaks, in Ashbourne. Took the day off work and drove up via Coventry to meet up with M for a bit. A14 was blocked on the way up so we went via the M1. I'd forgotten just how many people feel a need to drive up and down the M1 during the day...

Explored the centre of Ashbourne in the evening, scouting possible eating places. Excuse this photo - it's hand-held and it was drizzling and darker than it looks, but I do quite like reflections off wet roads.

Found a wine bar that did 'sustainably sourced' pies, which suited us fine.

Workmen were putting up flags and bunting for Shrovetide. We'd not met Shrovetide before and were somewhat puzzled.

Essentially it's um, early football. Mass lunacy, one ball, two sides (of somewhat indeterminate size) and two goals (admittedly, 3 miles apart); so not much has changed then...

Only a couple of rules - no killing people and no driving off with the ball in a car. More...
