Xylaria hypoxylon (Candle Snuff Fungus)

I've noticed that the tops of these are discoloured. Age, frost or fruiting I'm not sure but it adds a little more interest.
The Irish Woolfhound that I blipped a couple of weeks ago took exception to me being so familair with him and barked at me. We're OK again now.
