The beauty of Knarsdale
I heard the weather forecaster mention rain for today, but I missed the bit about gale force winds in the South Tyne valley. A smaller than usual group of walkers set off from Eals Bridge and as we gained height on the west of the River South Tyne, we were in the teeth of the wind (and rain). It was hard going.
Friendly farmers loaned us barns for coffee and lunch stops. Very welcome indeed. We cut the walk short because of the conditions, but after lunch the rain stopped and the wind eased.
This photo is taken from the east of the river looking to the other side of the valley in Knarsdale and is typical of the gentle countryside, with mainly livestock farming.
Off for an early bath!
