Roots & shoots: last of the wheatgrass
This is the last shot I'll take of this month's batch of wheatgrass. I just wanted to share this view of what the underside looked like. Notice how incredibly dense the root matting is - it totally binds the soil so you can hardly spot it.
Incidentally, I do cut the grass close to its stem but you can see how much grew back again whilst I was working my way around the rest of the tray - three days regrowth. I used to let it get higher and crop that too, but I read that nutritionally this secondary growth was weak so now I just leave it.
This will go off to the compost heap - or I might see if the chickens want to play with it.
