40 Years On

Our woolly friends

Lazy start today - wandered along the harbour taking in the views. "I sites" are great - full of ideas - so we found a visit to an Alpaca Farm. The farm was high up on the hillside overlooking Akaroa and its breathtaking panoramic views over the harbour. We had an interesting and interactive introduction to these majestic animals. We wandered amongst the grazing herd and learnt to lead an alpaca and discovered the unique qualities of the fleece, proclaimed as "fibre of the gods" by Incan Royalty. A calf had been born this morning - we saw it only 6hours old - what a little sweetie! There were 70 alpacas in the herd - quite friendly and did not spit at us! Back to Christchurch tomorrow in preparation for our flight to Oz.
