Wake up with coffee at Three Lamps
Dark when I started my run today. Serious cloud cover meant the light was still dull even when I finished. Doesn't feel like summer, except for the heat and humidity, which is quite enervating.
Three Lamps is the name given to the area of Ponsonby Road from where it joins with Jervois Road, St Marys Bay Road and College Hill to the corner with Pompalier Terrace. The name refers to the three gas lamp light which once decorated the Ponsonby Hotel on the corner with Jervois Road. The old hotel has been converted into apartments above shops.
This cafe is one of three cafes in Three Lamps, on the opposite side of Ponsonby Road. It is the only one I have seen opened (or opening) early in the morning. It is moderately well patronised for 0630. Later in the day, no one would be sat outside as the threatening clouds of the early morning delivered the promised rain.
