A most treasured possession

This is a photo album given to me a few years ago by a good friend. It follows a climbing expedition to Norway in 1907. Not just any climbing expedition, this one was led by a William Douglas who was an Edinburgh based climber and also a member of the Scottish Mountaineering Club and one time Editor of the SMC Journal. It was Douglas, along with Professor Ramsay who proposed the Reverend A E Robertson for membership to the SMC. Robertson then went on to become the first person to climb all the Munros in 1901.

What is most unusual about this album is the amount of photographs of ladies in the party, but more particular ladies who are actively involved in the mountain days. Something of a rarity in 1907.

The album is tatty now, but the photographs are just wonderful.
