57 varieties?
Travelled to Surat Thani as planned. Hotel sold us a less expensive package which entailed changing buses twice - once at a makeshift bus station and once at the side of a "motorway". The 3rd bus was without a/c so we all sweated for about an hour. Ugh!
Surat Thani is another utilitarian town, larger than Krabi and again on a river. There is an encampment on the riverside with small igloo type tents forming a ramshackle village, but not a protest a la St Andrew's Sq. This time it's just somewhere squalid to live. Didn't risk insulting the populace for fear of having my camera disappear.
This wee shop offered many more varieties of rice than you could shake a stick at. The shop next door had a similarly mind boggling variety of types of galvanised containers. Ah, how the world turns on commerce.
Not much to do tomorrow as we've already walked round both department stores!
Train to Bangkok at 18:37. 12 hrs sleeper 2 hrs for b'fast then 12 hrs sittin on another train to Chiang Mai. Perhaps we could have planned this a wee bit better.
Cheers,
