A Really Good Read
Nothing better than a good book. I have enjoyed reading Roald Dahl's autobiographies. He lived in interesting times!
He says:" An autobiography is a book a person writes about his own life and it is usually full of all sorts of boring details. This is not an autobiography."
The first book, Boy, is about his childhood and school years. Two parts caught my attention. He describes how he had his adenoids removed in the doctors room with no anesthetic and had to walk back home afterwards. (Which took them 30 minutes through the village!)
The other part I found interesting was when he describes their first family car. His older sister was the driver. "She had received two full half-hour lessons in driving from the man who delivered the car, and in that enlightened year of 1925 this was considered quite sufficient. Nobody had to take a driving-test. You were your own judge of competence, and as soon as you felt you were ready to go, off you jolly went."
Quite amazing to think how much times have really changed and how much we take for granted today!
