Prayer Mat

This is part of a Balouch Prayer Mat, originally made somewhere in the area of Eastern Iran and West Afghanistan. Apparently these mats were made (maybe still are) by very poor people.

It was bought in a shop in Knaresborough, sadly long gone, that specialised in Asian and Tribal artefacts. I still have the ticket that was attached to the rug, which tells me it was bought in March 1989.

The mat sits in my small hallway, facing east of course, and I enjoy looking at it every day.
