An unexpected visitor
During the morning a small hedgehog wandered into our conservatory. "It's too soon to be out of hibernation" I told it, just before it tucked into a bowl of food with enthusiasm.
I phoned the local rep for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society who was very helpful. It the hedgehog weighed less than 600g it should be kept indoors, ideally in a rabbit hutch, fed twice daily and cleaned out daily. Our hog weighed 288g so the challenge was to find suitable housing. I went to the village shop with an urgent appeal for a hutch, but was immediately put in touch with someone in the next village who had an empty guinea pig hutch.
Our hedgehog, as yet unnamed, is now resident in our garage and I hope he/she is going to do well. The photo is not technically good, but it captured the moment when the first food was taken.
Any thoughts on names please?
I've managed to reach 600 without noticing...........amazing to have posted so many images - totally and helplessly addicted to Blip!
