just a load of old stones
We didn't want them in our garden but we found a friend who wanted them in hers, so a neat piece of re-cycling has been taking place. A large area of our garden was covered in them, leaving little room for plants, shrubs and trees. We weren't happy, and neither were the birds. All our efforts to tempt them with food have failed. Blackbirds sit on the fence but take care to avoid the visiting cats. Our cat, Polly is far too comfortable in her warm bed to bother with birds. Much easier to take her food out of a dish.
...and so, I have been doing a bit of 'winter gardening'. I have been seeking inspiration from books on wildlife gardening. Adrian is also inspired by the idea of planting a native hedge. I am not sure yet if I have persuaded him about the meadow, and a pond remains only a pipe dream.....maybe just a pond in a barrel?
