Cabo Girao

A wonderful tour of the island today. Sparkling sunshine shows Madeira at her very best.

We drove high above Camara de Lobos up to the dizzy heights of Cabo Girao, the highest sea cliff - 1903ft above the ocean and the highest in Europe - second highest in the world. Our guide said the highest was in Taiwan but these claims vary.

We continued to the centre and then over to Porto Moniz with lava pools before returning to Funchal at tea time.

And this perfect day was made even better by Nottingham Forest's away win over Birmingham City.
